ABOUT MECCATHON

Newly established in 2014, Meccathon is a student-run, philanthropic organization at Howard University that works year-round to raise funds and awareness for Children's National Health System in Washington, D.C., our Children's Miracle Network Hospitals affiliate. Meccathon’s year-round efforts culminate in a 12-hour Dance Marathon that unites student organizations, university departments, small and large businesses, and a culturally diverse student population, all in support of the patients and families at Children’s National. Truth and Service are core values of our university, and our student body continues to, not only, live up to, but also exceed the expectations that our forefathers laid before us.

In Meccathon's first year as a dance marathon program, $12,943.51 was raised, bringing together more than 200 Howard University students and officials for a great cause! During our second year, we raised an additional $12,000! We are excited to see Meccathon grow throughout the years and continue making miracles happen

What is

Dance Marathon?

Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement involving college and high school students at more than 250 schools across the country, all raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in their community. These students spend a year learning invaluable leadership and life skills while raising funds and interacting with children’s hospital patients and families. The year culminates with a 12-40 hour long event where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games and entertainment in celebration of the total amount raised that year.

Why stay on your feet for that long? To quote the first Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Dance Marathon’s mission statement: “We dance for those who can’t.” It is this solidarity to – and connection with – the cause that makes Dance Marathon an event unlike any other.

The Cause

As a nonprofit, Children's National Health System relies on the generous support of donors to improve the health of children in the nation's capital, across the country, and around the world.

When you give to Children's National, you:

  • Give more kids a chance for a healthy life.

  • Help meet the diverse health needs of families in our community.

  • Ensure that every child in our area can receive the same level of care, regardless of their family's ability to pay.

  • Help cover the costs of specialized care, family support, groundbreaking research, and more.
